the mind of a manic archives for September 2003

Added by snotty on 2003 September 29: This was an awesome weekend. Cal made an amazing Punjabi dinner - and thanks to Shama for inviting me along. Did 65 miles around the lake again and averaged 19mph, which is amazing considering all the stop signs, slow people, pedestrians, hills, and set a new top speed of 65kph. Biking takes a lot out of you - it feels like a triathlon where after you're done, your body just says, "I’m hungry" - so you eat the fattiest most filling calorie filled meal you can find. Then your body goes, "ok, it's time for sleep" and BAAAM!! you're out cold - doesn't matter that it's 6pm. I woke up at 10pm after people's incessant calling and had a few drinks w/ Z. Biking was awesome though - the weather is holdin' up and I only got honked at twice, and had two cops ask me where my helmet was - and two biker girls who drafted from me and while I was taking a break asked me where my helmet was. For all those inquiring minds out there, I've got one on order from REI. I also saw Mulholland Dr. which was an awesome movie. I'm a big fan of the time play movies like Memento. I was so tired I missed out on an 80s party and a demolition derby that I actually wanted to go see, but didn't have the energy. Saw Lost in Translation which was very slow - and it was OK, except that there wasn't anything that made me think or showed me something about humanity that I didn't know. Been there, done that - it was interesting though. Also started reading Many Lives, Many Masters which actually made me use my Barnes & Noble card which I pay $25/year for but never use. I've also been thinking lately that people read too much and repeat what they read, thinking they now have the same level of understanding that the author did in their epiphany. Rarely do people understand a book before quoting it as if they knew what it was talking about. I think there should be another test above reading comprehension. Like reading comprehension and application - this would test to see if they understand and can apply meaning to another situation correctly - instead of just stopping at meaning. I believe knowing something and applying it correctly are two different things. It would make people less hypocritical I guess. Anyway - the book is getting more interesting, but probably still not worth the $12 bucks I paid for it. What am I saying though - I feel like a soothing cup of Chai for $4 bucks is a good deal.

Added by snotty on 2003 September 26: Did 20 miles today and averaged 32kph. I'm gaining speed and I'm really digging my new Deuter Race X Air pack - it's so comforatble. It has mesh straps and a mesh back with a hard back so that the backpack floats on your back - no more sweaty spots around your shoulder or back. I wish I could have found this before my camalbak or my north face pack. The weather here has been very un-seattle like. Then I got stuck in some crazy ass traffic that made me want to get my motorcycle even more and remind me that seattle needs some federal infrastructure funding... The only good freeways here are the 405 and the 5. Also saw The Animation Show. Mike Judge is guy that made Beavis and Butthead, King of the Hill, and some other cool shit. Don Hertzfeldt has won a bunch of awards for his short films. The enlightenment for the day was that Mike has a physics degree. Yet another warning sign that winter is coming, there were a bunch of Canadian Geese, probably about a hundred or so. They were chillin', then one decided it was time to go and the rest followed in a noisy swarm of kazoos. They would also crap all at once - made it feel like pearl harbor. The last thought of the night is Japanese animé vs US animation. Adult swim is getting repetitive - which just means I need to sleep instead of watching reruns. Trigun and Family Guy are the only things keeping me going - probably 'cause I never watched them enough before now. Futurama, Bebop, Inuyasha, Blue Gender are all repeats now =( I sure hope Bebop comes out with another movie.

He can still kick my ass whenever he wants, but even I get lucky sometimes... heh... Amazing day of sun today too - had lunch @ Pike's Market. Everyday should be like this... I stocked the fridge at work with beer and mochi yesterday - the only two things in life you need to survive =)

Added by snotty on 2003 September 21: So the friends are finally gone - had sushi @ nishino's and had some wonderful wine and sake. Did the usual seattle things in a day - Pike's Market, Post Alley, Alki Beach - where we caught a wonderful sunset. Then it was off to clubbing - yet another night of drunkenness and taking care of those who can't handle their liquor. Today we hit broadway grill and dropped dave and ed at the airport. Hopefully I'll be down in a month or two to see them again. The weather this weekend was unbelievable too and I was able to put in another 20 miles onto the odometer. Still only averaging 30.6kph but it's kinda hard to not slow down when there people all around and lost of curves and people who don't know what, "on your left" means.

Added by snotty on 2003 September 20: Just got back to seattle with the crew. Went to cannon beach again. Gary, Vicky, Dave, Ed, Caroline, and Kevin are settled in here now. We took 447mB of pictures our first day. There were 10 waterfalls on that 8 mile trip. Pictures will be up as usual. We hit the rose gardens in portland. No idea why it was called Washington Park when it is clearly in Oregon. Good friends are hard to find... It's even harder to have 6 of them all in the same place. Drinking and partying like time has never passed. The best thing yesterday was Taco Bell - gourmet food when you're hungry and everything is closed at 10pm. Gas prices are still unfrickin' believable. Anyway - time to party in seattle tommorrow =)

Added by snotty on 2003 September 17: Saw the White Stripes concert today - it was definitely "concert junior" as Zach put it. A highlight was the soda I bought that cost $2.75 - which I paid $5 dollars for, which I got $7 dollars in change for. What a deal - get paid $2 dollars to drink a Sprite. I like that marketing campaign. Watched Adult Swim with Janet and did some chores. All she did was read code... psh! =) In other news - time to head out to Portland. Ed, Dave, Caroline, Kevin, Vicky, Gary and I are gonna party like there's no tommorrow... in Portland...

Saw matchstick men, cradle to the grave, did the puyallup fair, Fry's electronics and got to bike around - and the weekend's not even over yet. Enjoyed the one day of sunlight and warmth that came around, but it's damn chilly these days. Time to start waxing the snowboard.

My next door office neighbor also complained of my music, my lewd comments, and general noise... the walls need to be filled with concrete so i can be my loud self in peace. Janet's gone =( but we did have a nice korean thanksgiving... haven't had that much fun since sushi with janet... I'm gonna miss her bein' around =/ molting her hair and shit around the place...

Added by snotty on 2003 September 7: So I cleaned out the garage, got a haircut, got rid of that damned sticker on the driver side window of janet's car, cooked dinner, did the garbage/recycling thing and installed a computer on my bike. The results? Average of 30kph (19 mph) with a top speed of 48kph (30 mph). It's gonna be badass knowing my stats anytime without having to rely on those radar guns they put on the side of trails to slow people down but make me go faster to register a higher speed. I still wanted to go shopping, hit barnes and noble, and sign up for climbs - I've been neglecting the mountains - but there's only so many hours in a day.

Added by snotty on 2003 September 6: This week has been a blast... Besides getting sick with yet another virus from probably having too much fun and not sleeping last weekend, this week was fun. Biked 20 miles on friday. Cooked at home while I was sick. Janet is a sweety for cooking breakfast and cleaning... and always in a hot get-up =) She's a blast what can I say. The best roomie I've probably ever had at the hostel. Saw SWAT and Equilibrium, both great movies. Today, we went to cannon beach and dug holes in the sand to sleep, ate lots of chocolate, rollerbladed around alki beach, ran a lap around greenlake, and then ate sushi at Toyoda Sushi. It was one of the best sushi I've ever had because of the sushi chef, janet, the food, and the cheap bill. I wish I had a present to give to the chef 'cause it was his 35th. One of the best weeks I've had - having nothing to do with work or my physical health. Time to sleep.
