the mind of a manic archives for May 2003

Added by snotty on 2003 May 29: Got a henna today. Then I was told that the design was feminine and that indian women who are getting married get it. I just think it looks cool. Got a ton of climbing gear from a co-worker today which is cool. Free gear is always cool, but he made me promise to only use it for top roping and not lead climbing 'cause he said the stuff was old and had taken a few falls. I'm gonna clean the gear up a bit and try it out when I get a chance. The ropes looked brand new and were dry ropes, so that was the major score of the day =) I also went to an art showing. It's my 2nd time going to the Nico Gallery for Maeve Harris' showing. I really like her paintings of horses. She uses metallic paint and blue and red hues usually on a metal surface. My dad would like this stuff 'cause he's into horses. It's cool being around artsy people too. You don't find many artsy people at work. I also saw two other co-workers there. Guess you can't avoid it being in a small city. Also, Israeli women are hot =) every Israeli woman I've met (ok, so I've met only a couple) have great personalities. Maybe I like their accents. Anyway - it's time to pack for the climb on saturday. Which reminds me - I gotta get me some instant camping food.

I also picked up my Arc'Teryx Alpha SV Bibs after repairs were made on them. I tore them with my ice axe on my last trip and had to duct tape that shit for a day. Made me look all hardcore and all the instructors had a good laugh. Now I have a patch on my pants and I look even more hardcore. They are by far the best bibs ever. They are water, wind and dirt proof. Very light and great for layering. They will withstand anything - except the pointy side of an ice axe. I also took a spin on the Trionfo. It's greased lightning - I want to do 50 miles on that bike so bad. I think at 52, the bike might be too big for me, but it helps me tuck in real low. It has a remarkably smooth ride due to the carbon fiber stays and fork. The seat is actually pretty comfortable even though it's rock hard. Guess I might have to return it and get a 50 in a few months. Gotta love REI's return policy. They better take it back, since I spend a sizable chunk of my net income on their stuff when I should be eliminating hunger in a 3rd world nation instead. Also picked up an auto-locking carabiner for my personal anchor. Since the weather is really nice now - might have to go shopping for spring clothes, bring the volleyball to work, and get back into shape. Finally beginning to get toasty brown from the sun. Up for this week? Wednesday is movie night, Thursday is an art showing, and friday is driving down to Andrew's place to prepare for the Nisqually Glaicer this weekend. I should have pictures from inside a crevasse soon =)

Added by snotty on 2003 May 27: The graduation went with a few hitchs - no CF card in the digital camera, no videotape for the digial recorder - just plain old 35mm photos. I decided not to participate in the catholic rituals. Vacation's over and now it's back to work. Not that I ever left since there were two "urgent" requests while I was away for stuff that was due by Tuesday. Yes I'm a workaholic.

Turns out that she might be the first one out of all the kids in our family to actually make it through college =p Meanwhile, I'm enjoying the sunlight of california - it's a welcome change to the bullshit seattle weather. Saw my bro's new Nissan 240 SX today too - it's pretty nice. Technically, I'm on vacation but I actually can't wait to get back to work. I think a lot of changes are going to be happening there, good or bad. I also want to get back so I can take my new 2003 Novara Trionfo out for a spin. I even got the lightweight egg-beater pedals. It should do me well in the upcoming triathlons, STP (Seattle to Portland) and STV (Seattle to Vancouver). Janet's urge to run 5 miles a couple times a week should also help me get in shape. I brought my tennis shoes to go running or play tennis with, but I don't know if I'll do either this trip down. I also need to sign up for climbs for the mountaineers, pay off the couch, and plan my overdue bday party. People are buggin' to get drunk.
