Web Development Tutorial is a hands-on tutorial to help people learn the basics of web programming. The following topics will be covered:

  • refresher of front-end development (HTML and CSS)
  • write a very simple CGI script in bash
  • introduction to static site generators using Jekyll
  • introduction to web frameworks using Django

Bring your own laptop!

Attendees are each expected to SSH into a new Debian virtual machine and work entirely in the shell. They will not need to install or configure the OS, but they might be asked to modify Nginx configuration files.

Special note for Windows users: since winblows doesn't come with SSH by default, we recommend that you install PuTTY.
