[UCLA-LUG] testing a transparent Squid proxy configuration

I need to test the configuration for a Squid proxy set up in
transparent mode. I don't have access to the router/gateway or where ever
it's eventually going to go, all I have are two computers and direct
connection to the internet.

I was thinking I would have my linux box be a router and setup my
windows box to use the linux box as its gateway to the internet. Then I
could run the Squid proxy on the linux box and intercept the windows
box's http requests without it knowing.

Does this make sense? Is it a rational way to test a Squid proxy in
transparent mode? Or is there some better way I'm not aware of?

It's possible to turn a linux machine into a router, right?

    Thanks,
    Richard
