[UCLA-LUG] Booting Linux

Do we all have some sort of phobia of free software? AFAIK, installing LILO
on your hard drive works perfectly for many different scenarios. the newest
LILO can even boot linux with the kernel image residing outside 1024
cylinders. I've never tried any proprietary solutions to booting, but it
seems to that this mundane task need not require your money to work. I've
never tried Boot Magic myself, but I can't imagine how different boot
managers can be. But i guess it's ok if you *really* like seeing a GUI the
couple seconds before your OS boots up and if you value software you pay for
more than free software, then by all means...

as a matter of fact, I suddenly got interested in what system commander and
boot magic actually provide that LILO doesn't. Briefly browsing the
website, i can't see anything especially important that LILO can't handle.
The only real advantage i can see are the GUIs and maybe some stuff is more
intuitive than the LILO equivalent.
