What was the name of the software that you installed? Have you turned off
your machine without shutting down all the way? If you want to get into the
command line interface to rescue your system, you can enter "linux single"
at the LILO prompt. Then when you login to a prompt, type "init 3" to get to
the full text-mode runlevel.
