Hi:
Now that i can boot RH6.1, i found that it is creating a lot of problems
with KDE. Here are those i've found so far. If you know how to fix
them, please let me know. Otherwise, i'm thinking about backing up all
my stuff and reinstalling RH6.0.
Problems:
1. Red Hat 6.1 seems to include a ppp dial-up tool and some other tools
related to this (eg a configuration tool). Well, everytime i try to
open those, i get a gnome error message telling me that the application
has crashed, and refers me to some gnome internet page (it also says
"segmentation fault").
2. Since kppp never worked very well (even though it does work), i was
using usernet. Now every time i try starting usernet, the same problem
arises: i get the same gnome error message as above.
3. Problem #2, makes kppp the only way to connect to the internet, but
now everytime i start kppp, i'm asked for root's password. I have tried
changing permissions to pppd and kppp, but still doesn't work as it used
to do with 6.0.
4. When trying to open a document from Kfm (kde's file manager) there
are usually two options: if kfm recognizes the MIME type of that
document, it'll open the document with the corresponding application,
else it prompts you what application to use (like windows but without
having to uncheck the stupid "use always this application to open this
kind of documents" in case it is not the right application). If that is
the case, you have the option to browse for the application, but all i
get from the browsing tree is "This group is empty!" I have also tried
eiting my menus, but the problem persists.
Thank you,
Jorge Balbas
