I just subscribed to the list, and I have the very same problem with
my monitor (it loads X as about 460x600) and I know that my monitor
is capable of 1080 (I don't remember the exact number), I just want
a 600x800, so that I can see the entire window when I open programs.
If there is past info that you can direct me to, much obliged. I
tried playing around with the XF86Config file, changing the
Horizontal and Vertical ranges to the exact numbers which the
monitor's manual gives, but then I just got black screens and had to
reboot. Someone had fixed this problem for me before (the first time
I installed), but my HD crashed and all I could remember of what they
did was just was I mentioned above.

Thanks for any help.
