This sounds like a problem another guy on another list is having with
Corel Linux. Is the guy booting into graphical mode? In that case, I'd
tell him to look at his video driver. Boot as you described into single
user mode. Then run 'Xconfigurator' and reset your monitor and/or video
driver.
