First, it lets people know that I can receive encrypted and/or signed email
if they want to send it to me.

But more importantly, it's a sort of social validation of the everyday use
of encryption. If people get used to the fact that everyone (or even just a
lot of people) use encryption for email, they will start thinking that it's
just a normal everyday thing, and not just something that wackos do.

After all, you put paper envelopes around your snail-mail letters, so why
not put digital envelopes around your email? Sure, encryption isn't
widespread yet, and it's inherently subject to "the network effect", but the
same could be said of Linux itself. Be an early adopter. :)
