[UCLA-LUG] You don't exist, go away!

Well, I don't remember doing any damage to /etc/passwd, /etc/shadow, or
/etc/group, but now I'm running into "You don't exist, go away!" problems.
The problems don't occur when I'm trying to login to my machine, but
instead, I am being limited to telneting to fire only (ie, ssh gives me a
permission denied). Once I telnet into fire, I get "You don't exist, go
away!" errors when I try to ssh to somewhere else (say, one of the SEAS
machines).
I found a FAQ saying this had to do with the /etc/passwd or /etc/group
files, and my login not being registered in the utmp file, but doesn't say
how to fix it. Has anyone run into this?

Thank you
